Mrs Cash greatest ever,
This review is from: River & the Thread (Audio CD)
After listening to Rosanne Cash's latest I felt I had to dust off my keyboard and write my first review in a long time.
This album takes me back to the 90's when the country-folk girls (Mary-Chapin,Lucinda , Shawn Colvin, Nancy Griffith, Rosanne herself, Patty Griffin...) produced one masterpiece after the other. As time went by their output has often become more reflective, self-concious and boring, infected with the "too downtempo" disease.
And here comes Rosanne with a superb record, with many highlight songs that feed and grow on the fantastic tapestry that John Leventhal production provides (ah that guitar sound..!!). She delivers the perfect blend of fine lyrics and great music.
Many standouts here - the first four songs, the 50 watt duet, when the master calls...- and absolutely no need to skip tracks.
It may not take the genre to new heights but it is one of its summits. For me It is Rosanne's best ever and I have followed her for many years.Prolific she may not be but I am ready to wait again a few years if the result is going to be like this. I hope many of her before mentioned colleagues take note.
ou can always
If you like the country-folk-singer-songwriter genre this is for you.
