excellent with minor technical annoyances,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rosetta Stone Spanish (Latin America) Level 1-5 Set for Mac [Download] (Software Download)
This review is to provide a few of answers I initially had about the Mac downloadable version of Rosetta Stone - Spanish (Latin America) L1 - L5 and provide a couple of notes about the the technical aspect of my experience with it. If you are looking for for a review on the benefits of Rosetta Stone, others have written about them extensively
1. It is the same version as the boxed set. I ended up with version v4 TOTALe (downloaded Jan/12) including the limited-time free online features
2. Yes, It allowed me to install it on two Mac machines
3. You are provided one activation code that unlocks all 5 levels on both machines
The download and installation was as easy as any other program. Make sure you have broadband internet and a decently configured computer as the graphics, animation and progress sync may slow down your computer if you have an older configuration.
Every time I turn on the application, it goes through the audio set up. In my hands, the microphone set up always fails the first time (buttons to retry audio set up also become unclickable) and the activity slides do no appear as well. These 2 issues always resolve after I quit the application and restart it. It is a minor annoyance but it only takes me an extra minute to start the activities. Again, this might just be the computer I work on.

Thanks for your feedback. btw that's not a minor annoyance. For 500bucks I don't wanna be annoyed. I have version 3 and tried to install it on my mac (I recently switched from PC to mac) and it gave me the same prob....well kinda, even when I restarted it never worked!!! I was thinking of purchasing version 4 just for improved compatibility with mac and now you're saying I can look forward to the same. Shame Rosetta Stone! Y'all should have this prob. fixed by now.

Another problem that I failed to notice initially is that the lesson does not end properly on the last slide. When the software is behaving well, a lesson ends after the last slide, reports your score and offers to continue to the next lesson. Often times though, it does nothing after the last slide and I have to manually click the home button to go back and choose the next lesson. It happens whether I select the option to manually or automatically advance slides. It happens consistently on my 2 computers. Fortunately, it saves my progress although my wife was not as lucky as me and had to redo a lesson to register her completion.

I want to buy the Mac download as a gift for my boyfriend. I do not have a Mac, I have an hp. Will that be a problem, or do they just e-mail you a code that he can enter on the Rosetta Stone website on his computer? In other words, does the download have to be downloaded onto the computer that it was purchased on?
