4.0 out of 5 stars Great DVD/VCR but no Coaxial Connector, March 8, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Magnavox DV225MG9 DVD Player & 4 Head Hi-Fi Stereo VCR with Line-in Recording (Electronics)
This is a great DVD/VCR and works very well. I knew that it did not have a TV tuner, which I figured was no problem, since I have satellite and would have to go through the box anyway. However, since there is no tuner, there isn't a coaxial connector on the back, only RCA. So, if you have an old TV that only has a Coaxial connector, don't buy this unless you also buy a RF Modulator.

How did you eventually make out with this unit? I need a unit badly and am trying to make a decision based on your comments. Any additional advise would be helpful and appreciated.

Hi Daniel,

I used this to make this player work with a coaxial cable:
Axis Rse-c175/41555 Standard Rf Modulator With Stand
Axis AV5150 RF Modulator with Stand

Hope this helps!

You're probably right. How can someone praise it without pointing out it's drawbacks!

I received this as a gift because the DVD of my old combo died. It's too bad that the giver didn't know about this issue. It took two abortive tries by a friend and finally a call to my cable company to hook this up properly (because I have an old TV). And once that was done, we discovered that the VHS rewind/fast forward is broken. So now I use my old VHS for taping and my new combo for the DVD -- until I have the money to replace both of them.

What's a RF modulator?

An RF Modulator allows you to connect this VCR/DVD combo that only has RCA connections to a TV that only has a Coaxial connector. Here is an example:
