This review is from: Maxell CR1616 Lithium Coin Cell (5 Pack) (Health and Beauty)
I started playing Pokemon Ruby again and a message came up after selecting the save file that "time based events will no longer" occur. I didn't think this was a big deal at first since I could still play the game and still save. After playing for a couple of hours I decided to compete in Pokemon Contests and to get an early advantage in those contests, you need to give your Pokemon "Pokeblocks" since it has to do with the first part of the judging. To make 'Pokeblocks" you need berries and to make a lot of 'Pokeblocks" you need a lot of berries which you have to grow.
Now a dry battery stops all the time based events and berries wouldn't grow after planting them since their growth is a time based event (including day and night Pokemon appearance, Mirage Island appearing, tide effects, etc) so I decided to replace the battery after reading somewhere that it's a CR1616. Once the batteries arrived I took the first one out and measured its voltage which was 2.8V instead of 3.0V and I guess that was OK since I think the black number on the battery is the expiration year and my number is 11. After deciding to replace the battery I filed the leads close to the edge of where they are glued (so I could still use them for the new battery and not do any soldering work) and took the battery out.
The actual battery of the Pokemon Ruby cartridge is a "Maxell CR1616T 3V".
After replacing the battery, I used some electric tape to hold the leads close to the battery, closed the cartridge, and the "time based events will no longer occur" message did not occur after selecting the save file. Now berries are growing just fine. My only concern with the batteries is how long they will last but I guess having 4 more takes care of that concern.
