This review is from: Return to Halloweentown (Ultimate Secret Edition) (DVD)I was extremely disappointed that Kimberly J Brown was not playing Marnie in this movie. Sara Paxton does an OK job, but it's just not the same since the character of Marnie had been played by the same person in the 3 other movies. Also, I love love love Debbie Reynolds - she's the reason my family started watching this series. Unfortunately she is barely in this movie. I'm talking maybe 5 minutes out of the hour and a half that it runs.
The story line is good and follows the other movies (to a point), but (my opinion) it would've been so much better if Miss Brown had played Marnie instead of another actress and of course, if Debbie Reynolds had been given more screen time. :)

Mabye Kimberly J Brown wasn't that old to look like Marnie is going to college.

When I saw the previews for this on tv, I was very disappointed that Kimberly Brown wasn't going to do the part. However, I decided to give it a chance. Sara Paxton did surprise me. She is a very attractive young lady like Kimberly Brown. She played the part much differently than Kimberly would have. However, it was still a good story - I always like a good time travel story element. I have recently decided to add this movie to my holiday DVD movie collection just in case it is ever discontinued.

The problem here is that Marnie is a character whose personality and mannerisms have thoroughly established by Brown in 3 previous movies. Sara Paxton does absolutely nothing to try to play the character as it has been established in the past. Thus, it is difficult to see the main character as actually being the same person that was in the 3 other movies, and that's not what you want in a sequel. It is possible to have to replace an actor and still have character consistency. A good example is James Rhodes in Iron Man and Iron Man 2.

Kimberly Brown is four years older than Sara Paxton.

And you know what? Kimberly could have done it. Disney chose to go with a "younger" more "popular" actress of the time. So angry when I heard that.

We would like to see a new HalloweenTown with Marnie (Kimberly Brown playing the part), Sophie, Dylon, Gwen and Grandma Aggie. However, it could feature Kimberly grown, married and with her own children now. Not sure where to take the story from there, but it has a lot of possibilities.
I agree with Brandy, I was disappointed that Kimberly did not do this movie. I thought Sara did a good job, but Kimberly is definitely missed from this one......
