POSSIBLY THE GREATEST SCORE IN HISTORY!,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Edge (Audio CD)
If you're looking for this soundtrack, then you've probably already seen The Edge. The edge is the story of a group of men, who have to suvive in the wilds of Alaska while trying to be rescued. Sufficed to say it was an excellent film and Jerry Goldsmith's breathtaking musical score deserves much of the credit for the movies success. Throughout the years there was only one version of this soundtrack and very few were made. This meant that you'd be paying upwards of $80 for a used one and a small fortune for a new cd...if you could find one. To add insult to injury, the original version only contained about 11-12 tracks so much of the films music was missing. Fortunately, a limited edition production of 3500 units has been issued for this new and "complete" film score. Now consisting of 23 track (3 bonus), we have finally recieved Mr. Goldsmith's entire orchestral masterpiece for a price that's temporarily affordable. It's really hard to describe this music to somebody who's never heard it. Suffice to say, it's the most effective representation you can get of the wilderness through use of music. Regardless of whatever track you turn on, you'll immediately find yourself feeling as though you're there, flying above or surviving in the wilderness. It evokes a sense of exploration, beauty and simplicity like no other score really has. When you're finished listening, you're going to want to get up, walk to the middle of Alaska, build your own log cabin and never come back. Bottom line, Jerry Goldsmith's score for "The Edge" is quite possibly the greatest musical score in film history. It's success in transporting the listener to a world where nature and instinct reign supreme both inspires and motivates. Who knows, perhaps you'll find life is better lived on...The Edge.
