5.0 out of 5 stars All I Ever Wanted (Deluxe Edition): In Review, March 11, 2009
This review is from: All I Ever Wanted (Audio CD)
Well, here we are with another album by the most talented Kelly Clarkson. I had to admit judging by samples of what I heard from this forthcoming gem I was quite skeptical to the notion that I WOULDN'T embrace it as I did last year with her My December album. I loved the dark and personal approach and could relate strongly to the lyrics and overall aura of it. See, I didn't become a Kelly fan until well after that album came out. I heard 'Never Again', that prompted me to get that album, listened to it, and the next day went out and bought Thankful and Breakaway. So when I received All I Ever Wanted in the mail yesterday you could imagine my surprise. It was a very welcomed surprise. Dark and Personal are one thing, but you can't live in it forever. Kelly shows it here and then some. I'm not going to review every song here, I'll just pick out a few of my most noticed tracks from it. Of course 'My Life Would Suck Without You' is a given, it's the first single. If Kelly ever intended to form a trilogy made up of (Because Of You and Sober), 'Cry' would easily be the contender for the third part. 'Don't Let me Stop You' sounds like a Pat Benetar outtake, seriously. I'm not sure if I'm the only one that's noticed this, but from the last album and hearing her on this one, she sounds like Pat Benetar in her heyday. 'If I Can't Have You' is well.....different which isn't bad, it's just not my kind of thing. I'm more of a rocker type which brings me to the song 'Whyyouwannabringmedown', it's NUTS!!! I've read some negative reviews on this song and I guess I can understand, but I love it when Kelly rocks out and honestly would love it if she did it more often. 'Impossible' is another song, one of many that could easily be the next single. 'Tip Of My Tongue' is absolutely not my cup of tea, and the only song I dislike to a degree. It just sounds like an Alicia Keys song, and while I like her as well, that sound doesn't fit Kelly. Finally 'The Day We Fell Apart' is way more sampling than I'd like to hear on any song, but it seems to work here, and is honestly my favorite of the 2 bonus tracks. So it wasn't a waste getting this D.E. after all. I have to give this 5 stars, it made a pretty decent impression on me the first listen, and I'm confident it'll be my third most listened to Kelly Clarkson album.
