This review is from: Maisy May (Kindle Edition)
I would embrace my teen years the way Maisy May does. This is an entertaining story about a wonderfully quirky young lady. To say she's guileless doesn't do her justice - the fact that she can be wryly honest about herself, observant but not judgmental about others and content with her lot in life when most kids her age are looking to break loose, is what separates her from your average fictional teen. There's angst - but not the Holden Caulfield variety. Does her exceptional malleability spare her from those pesky growing pains? Of course not, but the way she reconciles the things she's been taught with the harsh realities of life as we know it is also admirable. I am so glad that this is the first in a trilogy - I can't wait to take the next leg of Maisy May's journey right beside her.
I don't have children so I'll leave the age recommendations to the other reviewers. I only know that this book would have benefitted and inspired me at Maisy's age.
A word about Naomi Kramer: I read her Dead(ish) novella and loved that as well. Her writing is obviously well crafted but her real gift is for telling stories that are spontaneous and genuine and, above all, wickedly funny. She has a fan for life.
