Romance, action, laughs and Egypt. What more can you want?,
This review is from: The Mummy Collector's Set (The Mummy/ The Mummy Returns/ The Scorpion King) (DVD)Call me crazy (most do, anyway), but I absolutely adore this series. The first is your classic adventure flick, of course, with all the romance, action and comedy that entails. The second, and my personal favorite, delves much further into the story and cranks up the character development for practically every major character (I even cried for Imhotep at one point. Yeah... you don't want to get me started on that subject). Since I'm such a sucker for that sort of thing, you can bet I was captivated. Scorpion King, while not exactly mind-blowing, is cool for backstory on a previously sketchy character and pure actiony fun. Plus, Mathayus kicks butt in high style. :D
The box set itself is really quite durable, though it might not look it at first glance. An interesting choice, making it out of cardboard like that, but it works nicely. As for the extras and such, I love running through these. Having been fascinated with the ancient country from early childhood, the Egyptology lessons are nothing that I didn't already know, but they make me grin all the same. All in all, there are some lovely goodies in this set, especially the music videos for TMR and SK.
Mind you, I already own the lot of them on VHS (despite the fact that they're in another state with my grandmother while I'm at college), but we all know what happens to those things after so many viewings. So yeah, I didn't think getting one of my favorite series for the price of one new release was such a bad thing.
ps: The guys, particularly Brendan and Oded, are great eye candy. The Rock and Arnold add their own flavor of "hot," too, which is nothing to complain about for this female. A purely superficial thought, I know, and not something I generally pay too much attention to... but frankly, it's true!

Wow, it sounds like I'm reading my own thoughts here! :) I, too, have been in love with Egypt forever (see my user name - short for Hatshepsut,) am one of those who think that The Mummy Returns was at least as good as the first one (counting them together they are my favorite movie/series of all time,) and am getting my own copies of these movies even though my family already has copies. I love the movies for the same reasons that you described here and I am, of course, kind of in love with Rick O'Connell. ;) I really appreciated this great review - it really covered all the bases of the specifics of this particular product as well as the broader elements that make these movies awesome.

Yw! :) And thanks - she really is just so facinating. She's my favorite historical figure from any culture and the mystery that surrounds her just makes her that much more interesting. She's kind of on the obscure side so its great to hear from an Egyptology fan who knows her and can appreciate how cool she is. ;)

*snrk* Yeah... bit sad, that, but hardly a surprise. Most people would mangle even the name, and believe me, I know how awkward that is ^_^() All the same, great choice, I say. She accomplished a lot, never mind what ancient politics say. It means something, and while Egypt wasn't the most overbearingly patriarchial society, the fact that she was female and still managed says perhaps even more.
