3.0 out of 5 stars Nice kit but beware of the time estimate to build it, September 29, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Life-Like Trains HO Scale Building Kits - Belvedere Downtown Hotel (Toy)
Model is very easy to build, but the numerous awnings are plain white so the stripes
need to be painted by hand, which will take a lot time, skill and effort.
Also, some parts (such as the fire escapes) are pre-painted while they are
still attached to the sprues, so once you detatch them and file down
the sprue attachment, the original paint will be removed. Plus, the
original paint color is a specific brown, so you will probably
end up re-painting the parts completely. The parts are white underneath the
original brownish paint, so a repaint is probably more likely than
a simple touch-up. The model is nice, but it took many more hours to
complete than the instructions mention.

Ronald Gary says:
Great review; I'm thinking of getting this building. I appreciate your mentioning the awnings needing paint - I was thinking they didn't go with the weathered brick, anyway. A hotel like this may have had beautiful, clean awnings back in its beginning, but in later years (the weathered bricks), a small downtown hotel renting "rooms" certainly would not. At most, it might still have some weathered awnings over the front, first floor windows.

Just a thought! :)
