4.0 out of 5 stars So far, so good., August 20, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Acer Aspire V5-571-6869 15.6-Inch Laptop (1.7 GHz Intel Core i5-3317U Processor, 6GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, Windows 7 Home Premium) Black (Personal Computers)
I'm not quite sure why there are two reviews giving a one-star and three-star review for minor issues. This laptop, at $560, is very nice. Others brands have laptops with these specs for over $700 easy. It's lightweight, quiet, and quick. Granted, there are some design flaws: USB ports mashed together on the left hand side, keyboard slightly smaller than usual with sometimes sticky keys, touchpad without mouse buttons (would have liked mouse buttons). However, the functionality of the computer is great - it's quick, it's cool (doesn't heat up to 100+ degrees like some I've used), it's chic (simple design, but nice), lightweight, and the sound isn't too bad either. You're not gonna want this computer if you want to do hardcore gaming on it, but it's wonderful for students and general use. The keyboard comes with a full number pad on the right, which deviates the keyboard slightly to the left. I wish they would have left the number pad off and just made the standard keyboard bigger, but these are minor problems. Compared to other computers I've spent over $900 on, it's good. I wouldn't say it feels cheap, like others have mentioned. I like it so far. If anything goes wrong, I will definitely report back here.

Full numberpad?

Edit: This laptop does indeed have a full number pad on the right. The pictures are wrong as of writing this (the pictures must be of the smaller version of this laptop).

Yes! I too was wondering why Amazon is showing the incorrect picture/image of this laptop.
It does indeed have a set of compact number keys on the right side.
The keypad is actually quite nice for this price point. I've not had any sticky keys at all, quite the opposite. The keys have a nice action without being too shallow or too deep, which allows for quick typing.

Those who say this laptop feels "cheap" or "flimsy", what is your point of reference?
Modern laptops have become thinner and lighter as customers have demanded lighter weight and trimmer designs.
That's exactly what this laptop was designed to deliver. I guess some people equate heft and weight as being more solid, typical of the "more is more" mindset. If one is of that mindset, then why did you buy this particular laptop, which is clearly not made to be heavy and bulky. It's not a true "ultra book", which gives up a CD/DVD to save weight and bulk. This V5 is a "tweener" model as it's between a heftier full on laptop and a keep it minimum everything ultra book. The V5 also uses the smaller and less power hungry i5 3317U intel processor. It uses less power overall and shows an initial lower processor speed as it does this to save on power usage, but has built in ramp up speed when the user needs it. It also uses a more compact and lighter 4 cell battery instead of a typical heavier 6 cell. That's why the V5 can achieve longer running time.
