Same here! Owned it less than one year. Suddenly quit working. Never abused, used occasionally and carefully. A total loss.

Amazon Customer says:
I had the same symptoms with two players. I found an obscure note somewhere on the Sansa website, I think, that said to try pressing and holding the on-off button for 20 seconds to break it out of a loop. Worked for mine, restored both players to perfect condition, no loss of music. If you still have the player, give it a shot, can't hurt.

Interesting! mine has ceased function twice. I would give it a try every day. In both instances it would come alive on the third day. It showed battery low and would then take a charge and function as normal. Both times, the battery should not have been low as it was only used a few hours at most. I will try the 20 second on switch press and hold next time.

I have been removing my earphone jack and watching for the onscreen "goodbye". I had been leaving the earphones connected and just listening for the music to stop while holding the button. So far the player has not gone into a coma again. It really does look like a firmware bug.

I was just about to buy my third one (lost the first one while riding my bike then bought a replacement) before reading these comments. I too had my player just stop and wouldn't power on. Tried this fix that everyone is talking about and it worked. Thanks!

OMG thank you for this tip! I thought I was shopping for a brand new player and this 20 sec hold worked perfectly the first time!
