Truly great pack,
This review is from: Mountainsmith Approach 35 Recycled Camera Bag (Sports)
I've used a lot of backpacks and this one excels.
I normally like narrow one compartment bags but I love this bag.
I have taken it for 4 or 5 day backpacking trips no problem in summer. In winter it's a bit too small.
I can fit a 40 degree sleeping bag in one of the side pockets, a Lafuma Warm and Light.
I can fit a trail pad in the other side pocket and have a bit of extra.
On one of the little mesh lower pockets below the side pockets I put a length of paracord. On the other a tiny bottle of suds and a scrubber.
In the very front pocket compass and flashlight and map.
In the big front pocket my keys, knife, first aid and fire starting kit, and some of my food. In the big compartment tent, stove and food.
The sort of pocket between the outer pocket and main compartment is great for your rain coat, hatchet or anything you want to get to quick.
The shape of the pack would make you think that it pulls back on you but won't unless you overload it. I have wide shoulders and a lot of packs are a bit too narrow, not this one.
The only criticisim is the back board can be a bit sweaty in really hot situations.
Overall this is a great pack and if you put everything in the same pockets all the time you will never waste a lot of time packing and re packing.
Also with the front loading thing you don't have to dig thru the main compartment.
This pack keeps you organized and saves you time.
Also a good pack for weekend travel to other places in civilization.
