A household necessary for us!,
This review is from: PUR CR-6000 7-Cup Water Filtration Pitcher (Kitchen)
We live downtown in Washington DC which means that water straight out of the tap tastes like swimming pool water. Our building is new but the city waterworks are not which means that there's also supposedly a good deal of lead contamination, not to mention the other lovely spores and such that make it into a glass of water. Years ago in grad school a classmate teased me that I couldn't be a vegetarian AND drink DC tap water! All kidding aside, though, my obstetrician said that since I lived in DC I shouldn't drink the tap water while pregnant.
I've used various permutations of both Brita and Pur water filters (pitcher, faucet, under-sink, etc.) in the nearly 15 years I've lived here, and for more than the last 10 I've used and stuck with the Pur pitcher. Not only does the water taste fresh and good when it's gone through, I also felt more comfortable with Pur after reading the chart of the various things that their filter removes vs. what Brita does (Pur claims to take out way more and I've always thought their water tastes better.)
Really the only con I can think of is that with the large amount of water we consume in this house it seems like the pitcher constantly needs to get filled. They sell a bigger one, but our fridge doesn't have a great inner arrangement for something to take up that much space. Another commenter said how long the water takes to go through - I've never found that it takes longer than a couple of minutes with a new filter, even with all the crud we have in our water. Older filters do take longer, and I've found that I prefer to change them after the warning light switches to yellow instead of waiting for it to go to red. (Fresh taste of water, speed of filtering - it does take awhile with a full or almost-full filter.)
It's also great to have for filling up our reusable water bottles before we go out on walks vs. paying the money/wasting the resources to buy a bottle of water while out & about.
We have these pitchers at home and at work and I would recommend it with no hesitation.
