5.0 out of 5 stars So good I had to eventually stop, July 14, 2012
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dark Souls - Playstation 3 (Video Game)
I just finished this game tonight. It took me nearly 290 hours and I made it up to level 150. That is twice as much time as I have ever put into a game before. This game is just strangely addicting. I just could not quit. I kept thinking of ways to make it past the next boss or level up again. It is hard, and at times discouraging but only for a short time and then you are back at it. There were a few cheats/exploits that helped me out a lot. Otherwise I don't think I would have made it.

It was almost surreal when a dark spirit (online player) would invade my world to kill me, and they usually succeeded. It was equally cool when I was able to summon helpful phantoms (online players) to help me through particularly difficult portions.

What a feeling of accomplishment to finally beat Sith the Great White Wolf! I must have lost to him 30 times before the day came I finally got him!

The controls are excellent and it is fun to craft your character the way you want them.

My only criticism would be when you pillage a body you have to take the stuff on it, rather than ignore it, and managing the stuff in your bottomless box was a bit of a nuisance. But those are only minor nitpicks in an otherwise fantastic gaming experience. I almost passed on this game because I read it was so hard. I loved it and am very proud of the fact I finished it. After I finished it started me on the second play through. I realized I had to say "It is finally time to stop." I will miss Dark Souls and think about it often.

Congratulations for making it but... you'll be back :)

Now, that you are experienced, maybe you should try Demon's Souls too. It's not unlike Dark but it can be harder and it's definitely more complex and less forgiving.

I disagree. I've finished them both multiple times. Demon's Souls is much easier, and more fun to play. Dark Souls is more complex and it's a bigger game too. I put in 325 hours into Dark Souls through to a New Game +3 which I haven't finished. I decided to stop when I couldn't kill the Four Kings which I had left for last before Gwyn. But, I do agree, that I'll be back, eventually. In the meantime I've started a new game with a new character, a Deprived without a starting gift. Much better!
