Don't Buy This Edition. Great Film, but Not the Extended Version!,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Two-Disc Ultimate Edition) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Warner Brothers is trying to fool us again - calling this an "Ultimate Edition" when it is NOT the extended version of the film. It comes with behind the scenes extras and commentaries, but the movie itself is the same! I expect this is because they decided after the first 2 Ultimate Editions that they would wait and re-release all 8 movies at once in another Ultimate Edition, but this time a Box Set with extended versions of all films - to entice everyone to buy all the movies yet again. Hold off for now and watch your DVD copies - next year we can all buy the REAL Ultimate Editions!

Hi Mindbreak, just wonderin, have they stated that a box set w/all 8 films is to be released? I haven't heard and I just wondered if it is a rumor or if WB has actually said that it is in the works.

you have no evidence that any extended version is planned. you're just making things up.

D. Todd Mulholland says:
What part of "I expect" is in a different language to you people? He's cynically stating that he believes that this is WB's intent. He doesn't state it's fact, he states he believes it, and gives advice to potential purchasers.

Extended version or not, does this product really deserve *ONE* star?

The movie probably doesn't deserve one star, but the box set does. WB released extended versions of the first two films in this format and then just the regular versions for the rest of the "ultimate" editions. Anyone who thinks they won't release extended versions of 3-7 later to make more money is deluding themselves. It's a complete slap in the face to those of us who have ponied up for this format after being told these would be the definitive versions.

The additions to those two films though were the deleted scenes available on the earlier DVDs. If you really want to see the extra 3 minutes of film edited back into the movie than this isn't the set for you, but with the amount of additional features and commentaries that may not be released on future sets, this package deserves significantly more than one star unless you have issues with the film itself.

It never claims to be an extended edition. It is an "Ultimate Edition" with a few extra bonus features. Does not deserve one star just because you feel the need to go out and buy every edition that comes out.

Just because it isn't the extended version doesn't mean it deserves one star. That isn't fair. I am a huge Harry Potter fan and I felt like the extended editions can drag when your trying to watch it with family. If you look at the deleted scenes of these movies, some of them like three and four had hardly anything to add in anyway.

The first two Ultimates did have the extended movies versions and that was the original advertising in 2009 about the Ultimates,I remember their advertisements about releasing them one at a time with extended theatrical version, then WB changed their minds midstream, it is very sad that on tv they show the extended versions for free, albeit with commercials, I am sure we all can put 2 and 2 together when all the movies are released on Dvd, boxed sets, special editions, platinum series etc. what the final
reasoning was for not having the extended movie version on the flip side,
while some don't mind, that they didn't, some of us do,that they changed the Ultimate editions, midstream.
