First time buying into this franchise. I should have listened.,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: NASCAR '14 - PlayStation 3 (Video Game)
I pre-ordered this game, and leading up to the release date, there were not even any screenshots or play videos released until a day or two before release date. To me, that spoke volumes. What were they trying to hide?
The forums were abuzz with harsh criticism, and high expectations. As someone who had never bought into this particular franchise, I wanted to hope the game maker listened to it's critics and had prepared a great release. After an hour or two of playing it, I now know this was not to be.
The online play is virtually non-existent. If you plan to play with others, be prepared to be extremely disappointed. Games crash. Consoles freeze. Players disappear in the middle of races. While the lobbies are set up for 16 players simultaneously, you'll be lucky to race with half that. I played the first day about 4 hours, and had to reset my PS3 no less than 12 times. Hard reset. The controller wouldn't even reset it. Had to get up and unplug it to start all over. Talk about annoying. I had never reset the machine that many times in the 4 years I have owned it.
The online games are set to begin 60 seconds after two people are in a room. If no one else comes in, you race against one other. This causes there to be 100 rooms with 2-3 racers in each room, rather than allowing the room host to start the race when a room fills. Silly.
So I started a season, hoping to get SOME satisfaction from the game.
The AI races at 65% of their potential, and even at that low of a percentage, they are hard to race with. They run on a rail and seldom ever crash. They won't hesitate to crash you though. This made my single player experience not much fun either.
I am sending this game back. I dont agree with the EULA anyway.
This game sucks, and I don't recommend buying it at all. For the life of me, I can't understand how anyone can write a good review of it. If you look online, you'll see 95% of the reviews slam the game and the developer for ripping them off with an inferior game that you cannot even play.
If you want a good piece of a NASCAR game, even as limited as it is, get Gran Turismo 6. The online racing is fantastic, and often very competitive. They at least have the online part figured out.
