We've all been there: trying to eat better and ending up with boring, repetitious, or really expensive food. Finally, a book that offers healthy, interesting options for snacks and sides that won't break the bank!
In 25 Delicious and Nutritious Snacks, Pam Kazmierczak begins with a frank discussion of the importance of snacks. I've always heard that one should eat smaller portions throughout the day instead of big meals: Pam explains why. She also discusses simple substitutions: sea salt instead of table salt, dry salad dressings instead of snack toppers, and explains why some things are better choices than others. Pam also stresses the importance of reading labels- is that "healthy" option really better for you?
I really appreciated the layout of this book. The introduction is well-written and informative without being preachy or pushy, and when we move into the recipes, they're just that: Recipes. No chatter with my instructions- love it! The recipes are well laid out and the directions are clearly written.
The recipes are well enough written that a novice could follow them, and interesting enough for a skilled cook to enjoy. Most of them use ingredients already in most well-stocked kitchens- no exotic kitchen tools or hard-to-find spices required.
I wholeheartedly recommend 25 Delicious and Nutritious Snacks, and hope that you enjoy it as much as I have!
