so that's why this book felt unbalanced,
This review is from: Beguilement (The Sharing Knife, Book 1) (Hardcover)
one reviewer wrote that the sequel, to be published more than six months from now, was apparently part of this book. if so, the decision was, as most american business decisions seem to be, a way to gouge the customer and make more money for people who already are rich beyond the dreams of avarice. at least with bujold, the reader is guaranteed language that is grammatical as well as elegant, and a vocabulary that is accurate, brilliantly used, and assumes intelligence in the readers.
i read this in one sitting, into the not-so-wee hours of the morning. i was completely caught up in it--the characters, the use of language, the world-building. and i was very frustrated to come to the end of the book and realize it was only half a story.
the next day, i also realized i was not too happy about the age difference involved. what would the reviews have been like if an 55 year old woman fell in love with and married even a 30 year old man? yes, i picked up the explanation of the lakewalkers' lifespans.
those caveats aside, i would recommnend this book highly--after the sequel is available.
