Very good reference for homelessness,
This review is from: Encyclopedia of Homelessness, 2 Volume Set (Hardcover)
This compendium 2-set volume is a very good reference for "all things homelessnesss". In particular, it has a great deal of information on the language of homelessness in years past, including terms used and different media products (filme, etc) that have depicted homelessness. I received a copy of the set during my Ph.D. work in Social Welfare with a dissertation on homeless services. it was extremely valuable in locating articles on subject that I could then look up through library databases to get the exactly information. Although the set is quite academic in information, it does not put the citations within the text - only a biblio at the end and a cumulative biblio at the back of the second set. Probably a good idea to force students or academics to look up the actually article. The set does have the standard "experts" in the field - so called - the field itself is still too dominated by a core of institute and researchers - but that is not the book's fault.
Obviously, the price is quite a bit more than your average book or even textbook - although for the information it gives -
it is quite reasonably priced given the small market of people/institutes that would be interested in purchasing it. I actually applaud the publisher for taking on the project. I can't believe any money was actually made from it.
