Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tropico 5 [Online Game Code] (Software Download)
Know what the specs of your computer are and compare very carefully to the requirements. Even if your current equipment claims to meet the requirements it may not work. Bad job by the developer.
Also, this is through Steam, and not a true download.

It literally says "DRM: Steam".

Right below system specs it says "Steam account required for game activation and installation"
Also those system specs are for the lowest settings. Giving a bad review where no one else has optimization problems for a game is just pointless. It hurts a good games sells because "Your" computer isnt up to par with todays games.

Don't give a game a bad review and preach to other gamers about the requirements, just because you and your machine dropped the ball in that area. I understand you are mad because your dinosaur computer won't let you download and play it but my 1 year old non-gaming computer plays it fine.

other people do have problems...so the review will be helpful for people who aren't as computer savvy or may want to consider carefully prior to purchasing.

You shouldn't "meet" the specs but instead; beat them.

That's because you as well as this reviewer don't pay attention between required specs and recommended specs; not to mention doing your own research instead of crossing your fingers and toes hoping it will work then give the game 1 star because you didn't do your research. Both of you need to do your research.

Some of us did the research and were lied to. The original specs posted stated dx10; this doesn't work with most dx10 cards and was updated to dx11 upon release. Those of us that pre ordered were screwed. And don't give me crap about "dinosaur computers". Do some research, there are exactly 2 games currently that require DX11, one is Tropico 5 and the other comes free when you buy a DX11 graphics card (Watch Dogs).
Every other game release this year that's come out and about to come out has DX10 support AND DX11 Support including games which are far more graphics intensive than tropico 5. You can play games like Thief and all the other top tier graphics games with a DX10 card (yes they look better in DX11 but they support both).
Tropico 5? No DX10 support for some of the most common graphics cards currently in use today and its not because the game actually needs the horsepower of the newer cards, the developers simply didn't bother with compatibility options.
If you actually know the industry, this was lazy development; and the only game on the market this year that's done this.
No ones asking for DX9 support, that would be dinosaur computers, but DX10 is currently the most common video card standard world wide. The transition to DX11 is still ongoing and will not be considered the norm for at least another year.

Do your research first. This product is highly problematic, and it seems that more than just my computer will not support it. There is no directx 10 support on this software at all and it is unusable if your VGP does not support Directx 11. While Amazon could have done a better job of disclosing this fact, the fault lies with the developer. They got me for the price of the software (caveat emptor) but I will never buy another product by this development team and it is unlikely I will buy software, like this, in this manner ever again.

And this information was not published on the download website. It required independent research. Yes, I know, shame on those of us (who have a life) who pan this product for not scouring the entirety of the internet for this information. Several of the online reviews fail to mention the directx 11 (lack of directx10 support) in sufficient specificity to allow buyers to make an informed decision. My PC is only two years old so it is hardly a "dinosaur" (Moore's law not withstanding). It is not unreasonable, for those of us who expected a workable product, to be disappointed and annoyed by this development. Under the principle of "caveat emptor" the responsibility rests with us...but as the purpose of these reviews is to provide potential buyers with information that might impact their purchasing decision, these reviews are both valid and important. Tropico 5 is highly problematic, for many pcs and potential buyers should be advised of that fact.
