1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed *not as described*, February 12, 2014

Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony BDPS3200 Blu-ray Disc Player with Wi-Fi (2014 Model) (Electronics)
I have to say I don't normally write reviews however I do read them and take people advice into consideration when buying....therefore I felt the NEED to write a review on this DVD player because I bought it for a specific reason and it is not what it advertised. Let me explain.... I have recently started using Amazon Prime and am watching movies and such on my iPad. LOVE IT! We'll there are times we as a family would like to watch a movie together without sitting on top of each other so I needed something to stream it to our tv! So I did my searching and liked the sony bc they specifically state (in a few places) "Amazon Prime" now I was going to go with last yrs model because of the great reviews but decided I would really prefer something new!!! So fast fwd.... The box comes and yes it states "amazon Prime" ON THE BOX... I hook it up and get this message that it isn't available!!!! I cannot express how furious this makes me.....if you advertise it then you had best have it!!!!!!
I do not recommend this to anyone as they are dishonest in there labeling and advertising!!!!

Whatever says:
If it's really just refusing to work with Amazon Instant Video as advertised, then I completely understand your poor review (and I'd want to know that before I buy it, which I'm thinking about). For the moment I'm taking your review with a grain of salt since you referred to this as a DVD player. It is technically a DVD player, but there's a lack of attention to detail there. Can you post exactly what the message says? Can you take a picture and link to it on some image sharing service?

Are these instructions of any help?:

Yes it was just a generalized statement of (DVD player) should of been more exact.

The error message I got said:

This service is coming soon. Please try again later.

We had tweeted a picture of it yesterday ... Search for s3200

Which made me look into this further and no it is not capable to connect to Amazon Prime -at least not yet!

Whatever says:
Thanks for your reply. I think I found your tweet. I searched for the error message and found other comments saying the same thing, at least about other players in the same series, like the S6200:

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1510243/official-sony-bdp-s1200-bdp-s3200-bdp-s5200-and-bdp-s6200/90#post_24288110

So yeah, that's bogus. It does sound like it will probably support it eventually, but they shouldn't advertise the player as if it supports that, e.g. by putting the logo on the box, if it doesn't work when the player hits retail. I agree with your review.

For what it's worth, people in that avsforum thread were complaining that the Amazon app on the x100 series (like the S5100) is bad, and speculating that the Amazon app on the x200 series (like the S3200) isn't available yet because they're working on a new one. So in the long run it's possible the S3200 would work out better for your Amazon viewing than one of the older models. But it's bogus to have to wait and wonder when it'll be available.

JJG says:
The same message appears on the S3200 if you click on the Vudu app. That means 2 of the top 3 apps listed within the S3200 menu (Amazon and Vudu) were not even ready at the time of its release.

I picked up a Like New S1100 on Amazon Warehouse Deals and returned the S3200 to Sony. Both apps are in the S1100 and both work. I dislike the menu within the Amazon Instant Video app compared to the menu within the app using a Roku but it still works. The Vudu app in the S1100 is identical to the app using a Roku. The Vudu app in the S1100 works perfectly yet it still wasn't available for the S3200 at time of its release.

The Hulu Plus app in the S1100 is a complete dud. It is even buggier than it is in S3200 making it completely usable. I have yet to watch a show on Hulu Plus with either player in which I didn't experience a bug. Most commonly the bugs force me to have to unplug the player and plug it back in or restart a show. I almost never experience an issue watching Hulu Plus with the Roku.

I was as angry as you! I decided to have a 'chat' with Sony and they claim the Amazon and Vudu options will be available in April 2014. I purchased this player ONLY for the amazon instant video, which as you state, is advertised on the box. I hope they deliver in April or this chunk of plastic is going back. I wish I would have read this review before I went to the store! Grrrrrrr!

My father had the same problem. He called Sony and they have done a software update and these players will now work with Amazon Prime.

Perhaps now that Sony has done an update that does have the Blu-Ray player work with Amazon Instant Video you might update your review?
I just bought one of these and during setup it showed that there was an update. Mine works fine with Instant Video.

Hi Whatever, I know it's been a while since you posted this but thought you should know that Amazon Instant Video was unavailable on 2014 new Sony Blu-ray Players due to incompatibilities between Sony's device and this content service. Sony has already worked with Amazon to resolve this issue and ensure the high standard of service for our customers. This solution will be automatically updated when the player tries to connect to the service. Linda
