This review is from: You Are Your Own Gym: The Bible of Bodyweight Exercises for Men and Women (Paperback)
I occasionally enter endurance events (mostly running) and am fairly active but the cheapest gym around is more than I could justify. Did the standard run, pullups, pushups, ab exercises, and got an inner tube with sand for squats, but felt I was not as rounded in my training as I should be. This book made me realize there was much more I could do with quite little (a broom, a door, a floor...). It makes the whole world your gym. There are training plans in the back and an index of exercises (2 spots to bookmark) but you will probably go on to make your own workouts. I think most top athletes learn to listen to what their body needs and modify their training to suit. These types of exercises allow for a lot of variations.
The books downside is that it kinda kills the allure of going into a small overpriced gym to wait for 'my machine', clean it of other people's bodily fluids, try to remember the settings from last time, then stare out the window on a beautiful summer day at happy people playing in the sun.
Haven't written a review in a long while. Wrote this mainly to say thank you to the authors.
