Let there be light...,

This review is from: SpokeGrenade SG-1000 Bicycle Headlight Set
So I needed a light for my bike so I could commute home in the later hours now that its getting dark earlier, I had recommendations from friends and did some reading up on reviews of many other lights. The one thing that was consistent was, go for 1000 lumens lights what every you do. My search was turning up many well rated 1k bike lights, but out of the blue I found a link to this SG-1000 ligh via amazon. I tried to dig up more info on this company and any other possible reviews for this light and there wasn't much. I did find a small thread with posts from SpokeG support, and a video on youtube. Figuring that I could spend $250-$400 for some other bike lights, or take a chance on and SG-1000 for $109??? I couldn't resist, only 1 Amazon review... hmmm what is there to loose, I'm in!
I've only had it for a few days, but let me tell you this light is friggen bright! I went for a quick night ride the other night and the light was casting a halo from curb to curb on either side of the street, and I was beeming bright light into the living room window at the house at the end of the street. Half power on the second click was about the brightness that I thought I'd get from this light (at 6hrs at this mode, where are your going to ride at night for 6 hours???), the 3rd quarter power mode, eh.. I'd skip, whats the use unless your trying to be stealthy. The 4th click blink mode... Ummm.. If you don't end up having seizures, other folks in the oncoming direction might, you might want to reserve that mode in cases that you really need to alert folks that you're on the road, or possibly at a dance club somewhere and you want to add to the atmosphere. In my quick ride, I turned around the corner with the flashing mode on, and a few hundreds of feet away there was a guy casually riding his bike ahead of me, I could instantly see the reflectors in his pedals blinking back at me... as I rode, he turned around and headed towards me, he yelled back... "WTF is that light your riding with, that is insanely bright man!" we struck up a quick conversation, showed him the light, and he was just as impressed.
In summary, I've never owned a bike light except this one, so I don't have anything for comparison. I've seen my friends NiteRider and Eclipse lights, they are equally awesome and extremely bright, however they were 2-3x as expensive as this light. The light feels extremely solid and durable, the battery back is a bit hefty, but I was able to easily strap it onto the stem of my bike without issue, stashing the cords in the velcro. Charging is pretty straight forward, plugin it red/green, not charged/charged.
All that said, I've ordered another light for my helmet (with the helmet adapter) so I can illuminate where I'm looking rather than where my handlebars are aiming, much like many other night riders have recommended. If I only use one, I'll keep both battery pack charged ready to swap. I can't vouch for the long term durability, maybe it will die on me new week... who knows. But at the end of the day, I've spent $220 on 2 of them here at amazon, for a total of 2k lumens, and I could have easily spent $250-$400 on a single 1k lumen light from other companies!
As a side note, I also bought the Portland Designs Danger Zone tail light based on the reviews here. The reviewers were spot on, great tail light. Ride safe!!
