Not too bad!,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: R310 2.7-inch 140 degrees Dual Lens dash board camera car dvr black box video recorder + gps logger (Electronics)
I wanted a car cam since I was hit by a truck backing into my car at a traffic stop. I reviewed various products sold at Amazon and decided on getting this based on reviews. The first unit I received was faulty - the power cable will not plug into unit. The replacement worked fine.
The unit claims to be HD but it is not. However the quality of video is pretty good though not good enough to read the license plate of the vehicle in front. There are two VGA resolution cams that can be used simultaneously. I guess one can be used to film occupants. The GPS works great. There is also a gravity sensor which is supposed to lock the video in case of an accident. You will need at minimum a 4GB micro-SDHC card. I used the following 16 GB card (SanDisk Ultra 16 GB microSDHC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card 30MB/s with Adapter SDSDQUA-016G-U46A) and it works fine.
The device formats the card using FAT (i.e., not FAT32) file system. The video files will not be visible in Windows 7 and you will have to use accompanied JPlayer to copy the files. The Jplayer does a good job of playing the files.
The manual is poor. The cameras seem identical but according to manual the one with L.E.D.s is rear (that is facing occupants) and the other one is front (facing out).
I did have difficulty in finding a good spot for mounting on windshield. The view is best if it mounted high on windshield but then you have wires hanging down. The way mount is designed, mounting near the dashboard does not provide a good orientation. If you set to get a good road view, you do not get easy access to either controls or screen. If the mount had a better design, I would have given it 4 stars.
-------addition on 11/18/12--------------
It takes about 1 GB to record about 50 minutes of front video.
I had some interference to my Car's GPS unit from it. Simply moving the dashcam slightly to a side resolved this issue.
