A truly great game,
This review is from: Batman: Arkham City (Game of the Year Edition) (Video Game)
I remember reading about Arkham Asylum and the Arkham City as they came out, but my Xbox 360 was on the fritz and I was too busy for games at that time.
Fortunately, I decided to get the Game of the Year edition of Arkham City and was absolutely blown away by the story, the gameplay, and the graphics. This is truly a great game in every respect, and it kept me coming back for more even after I beat the main storyline. There are many sidequests that will keep you busy for a long time, and I even played the game again on the "Plus" difficulty setting (the extra challenge makes it even more fun).
You really feel like you are Batman in this game, soaring above the rooftops, taking down enemies by stealth, or fighting in all out brawls against 6 to 12 to 20 foes at a time. For fans of the Animated Series, the fact that Kevin Conroy voices Batman and Mark Hamill Joker, makes the game that much more authentic. The voice acting is really, really good in this game, and I liked that the game bases its storyline on the comics and television show rather than simply making "The Game" version of the recent movies as many franchises do.
The Game of the Year edition is a great buy, because you are getting all of the extra downloadable content for practically nothing. The catwoman campaign, the extra skins, the extra challenge maps, and the Harley Quinn storyline are all great additions to the main game.
I liked Arkham City so much that I went out and bought Asylum which was great too. The one thing I liked about Arkham City more, however, was the open world format and the fact that the world was much larger than the one in Asylum. All games should be like this. Sure there is a linear main story but the freedom to explore and engage in side missions add a lot of extra depth to a game and allow you to take many different approaches to how you go about beating it.
