A Young Adult Romance,
This review is from: Pulled (Paperback)
Danielle Banister's debut novel Pulled is a young-adult romance told from rotating points of view. The points of view switch back and forth between the female and male characters Naya and Etash, and the result is that the story creates an internal tension that drives the plot forward. The story is set on a college campus.
I enjoyed this to a point. I think Danielle shows a lot of promise, and the unique way the story is told is worth a look in and of itself. I had a harder time accepting Etash as a genuine college male, and I think the story would be stronger if his and Naya's voices in the story were more distinct from one another. The word choice, style choices, etc., for Naya and Etash's sections are largely indistinguishable.
In either case, Pulled is a remarkable debut that would appeal to teen, female readers, and I look forward to novels that Danielle will write in the years to come.
