Used My Finish Quantumatic Only Once ... Looking to get my money back,
I too thought this would be another time saver with the only added costs of taking up some room from the top rack of my dishwasher and the added cost of the refills when compared to regular dishwasher detergent (I've always used Cascade or Electrasol powder).
After using this Finish product, I was unpleasantly surprised that as I was unloading my dishes that each item had a slightly slippery feeling and some of my flatware that was underneath the dispenser had residual "detergent" on them (very slippery). I know that my city water is relatively soft (so I didn't need more detergent) and my hot water temperature is not the problem. Just to prove that, I took out the Finish Quantumatic Dispenser and washed the same stuff using my regular Cascade powder. Everything is squeaky clean just like before.
Update April 12, 2011: I called the 1-800 number on the back on the package and talked with a customer service representative. They took some information to help them figure out whether other customers complained about the same batch and whether I used the Quantumatic correctly. They wanted me to try the Quantumatic again but to lower the top rack so that there was at least a 2" gap between the top of the Quantumatic dispenser and the top of the dishwasher. I can't do that without me not washing my dinner plates. They're going to send me some coupons.
Oh, for those of you who didn't know, the old Electrosol brand is now the new Finish brand. I never had problems with Electrosol powders. I'm going back to powders.
Cannot wash large plates and platters because top rack must be lowered because dispenser needs 2" of space between top of dishwasher and dispenser.
It leaves dishes and flatware with a slippery film.
Have to wait between wash cycles so the dispenser "resets".
Takes up room in your top rack that can be used for another cup or two.
Looks like hit or miss whether it will work for you. Stay with the powders or liquids.
