Twilight 3 Disc Special Edition DVD,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Twilight (Three-Disc Deluxe Edition) (DVD)
As huge fans of Twilight, we really enjoyed the additional features provided in the 3rd disc. If you only want to watch the movie itself and you are not into extras, of course this would not be for you. For all of you who do like having, owning, seeing every aspect of these films, it is far worth paying the extra to own this, even if you own the 2 disc that was more readily available when the DVD first came out, it is worth the money to get this 3 disc edition.
Not only are there plenty of extra interview materials, but there are extra scenes not included with the 2 disc. Remember the infamous Biology scene where Edward seems repulsed by Bella? Imagine if he suddenly attacked her from behind and drug her from her seat, biting her and doing what he so desperately wanted to do. Well, that was an alternate idea for that scene, and you'll get to see it on the 3rd disc.
Maybe most importantly, we feel it was a horrible idea to change directors, feeling Catherine Hardwicke had done her homework and by far had the best grasp on the romance of the books and film and the subsequent directors have done a horrible job, getting away from the romance and changing the films into an action series. Like Titanic, it's a romance series at heart. While the boat sinking was a big part of Titanic, it would not have been nearly the hit it was without the well told romance between the main characters. Since changing directors, the series has greatly gone down hill due to forgetting that the romance is the true basis of the series.
Having realized we were not going to enjoy the subsequent films as much as the original, we have made a point to collect as much as possible from the original film. If you love Twilight, you will love this 3 disc collection. Thank you Catherine Hardwicke for such an amazing job on bringing Twilight to the screen. We ache that the fools who came late to the party didn't get it but had their way. Jim & Stephanie Patton

Do you know if this is available on Blu Ray or not? In other words, are all the extras on these 3 DVDs available on Blu Ray somewhere with same extras, etc? I searched and searched but didn't find any more information on this? I would think the blu-ray has this content now? Many thanks in advance!

I have the Blu Ray in my hand and based on the Special Features listed on the back of the Blu Ray and on the 3 Disc DVD, each has items the other does not. This has been a common thing with Summit Entertainment, releasing various versions so that fans have to keep purchasing various versions to get everything.
Below are the descriptions for the Blu Ray and 3 Disc DVD.
I have bought most everything Twilight for my wife as birthdays and Christmas, etc has rolled around and one other item she really liked and I haven't heard many other people mention is Catherine Hardwicke's personal diary about making the film. My wife said it was almost as good as having another movie to watch with all the info it gave.
Here is how the different versions are described:
Presented in widescreen format only
Audio commentary by Catherine Hardwicke, Kristen Stewart, and Robert Pattinson
Muse music video: "Super Massive Black Hole"
Paramore music video: "Decode"
Linkin Park music video: "Leave Out All the Rest"
Five extended scenes with director introductions
Five deleted scenes with director introductions
Seven-part documentary: "The Adventure Begins: The Journey from Page to Screen"
Comic-Con "fandom" piece
Comic-Con NY sizzle reel
3 DISC DVD
This exclusive edition includes a free iTunes download of the film and bonus content including a conversation with Stephenie Meyer and Edwards piano concert
Features Robert Pattinson on "Becoming Edward," Kristen Stewart on "Becoming Bella," Catherine Hardwicke's vampire kiss montage and Bella's lullaby remix music video
2-Disc Special Edition includes commentary by Catherine Hardwicke, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, 5 extended and 5 deleted scenes and introductions
Also includes a 7-part documentary "The Adventure Begins: The Journey from Page to Screen" and music videos by Muse, Paramore and Linkin Park
I haven't had the chance to watch much other than the movies themselves, but my wife went through everything and said it was worth having all the different versions.
Hope this helps! Enjoy!! Jim

Thanks Jim! Yes! This Definately DOES HELP! I'm so confused, and am trying to surprise my Wife with "the best" editions in blu-ray if possible but also willing to consider the DVD's (for her upcoming birthday since she does not own any of these dvds and she's a BIG Twilight fan) ...i bought both the 3 DVD set and Blu-Ray to make sure and you've been the MOST helpful so far of anyone! Also, what is this "Catherine Hardwicke's personal diary about making the film" you speak of? I looked everywhere and cannot find it? Is it a CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, book? Many thanks in advance again and many blessings!

I somehow missed your previous reply, sorry about that! Yes, it's a hardcover book. I've copied the Amazon link below. It's for sale right now for $7.20 at Amazon. It has discussion about how she came to the decisions she did on everything from cast to clothes to how to shoot scenes. I love movies and anyone that loves how movies come together would love this book, and being a Twi-fan, my wife loved it. I have never seen anyone else mention this book out of all the others. I'd say it would be a great surprise. Enjoy!!! Jim
