This review is from: Skype (Android Edition) (App)
Skype did work for me on my phone (Samsung Infuse 4G) but, it can be slow and there can be delays in voice and in IMs (haven't bothered trying video since there are too many issues with voice and texting). Works fine on a wifi network but over cell network it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. One big issue with Skype is when you close it after you are done is stays running as a service. Even if you kill it off with something like OS Monitor it will keep coming back to life and it will keep using battery and cell network data. Very annoying and very bad. Only way to permanently kill it off is to shut down the phone and restart, if you have Startup Manager, otherwise it will start up as a background service again automatically. This fact is so annoying I'm undecided as to whether I should keep Skype on my phone or uninstall it. Skype, if you are reading this then please fix the app to not run in the background as a service. I would use it a lot more if it would actually quit after use. Anyway, useful if you really need it, otherwise use something else like Google voice if you can. Skype for droid is not ready for prime time.

While this was a problem in the past, we introduced fixes in this recent release so that Skype does not run in the background if you stop it. Have you noticed the improvements since upgrading to version 2.5 from last week?

Hello, D. Chastney, I upgraded after receiving your post. I now have version 184.108.40.206. I have tried it and it is better. However, if I load up Skype, use it, then exit (sign out) and hit the back button to close the application it still shows up in OS Monitor. It has no activity at all, but it does take up approximately 21 megs of memory sitting there doing nothing. If I kill it off with OS Monitor it does stayed killed off now which is a nice improvement and dramatically increases the usefulness of the application. However, the Skype app should actually close out when you close the app. Anyway, definitely an improvement in version 2.5 but not perfect. Thank you for point out to me to upgrade.
