Klimek - Movies Is Magic,
This review is from: Movies Is Magic (Audio CD)
Klimek, with his fourth album, MOVIES IS MAGIC, takes on the cinematic world. And indeed, the opener, "Abyss Of Anxiety (Unfolding The Magic)" has a majestic swell, even as it resist trying to be representative of anything. And if "Exploding Unbearable Desires" is supposed to match a scene in a movie, I supposed it'd be a vast western vista that suddenly fractures into desolation. "Pathetic And Dangerous" has a hint of pop music horns, but the horns take a more sinister turn on "Greed, Mutation, Betrayal," accompanied, as they are, by snippets of dark narration. "A Lament" continues this dark journey, hanging in the air like a body swinging in the gibbet. The cold martial snare drum rattles through "True Enemies And False Friends," one of the few concrete instances of rhythm on the album. "Sound Of Confusion" surrounds the listener in a soft, stringed sadness, which is reflected on "Tears Of Happiness (Dismissed Into Mundanity)," which suggests a train ride, a separation, and tears. It's as if the movie already lies within the music.
