nicely written but a bit thick in the middle,
This review is from: Fly Away Home: A Novel (Hardcover)
The story started strong and ended stronger. The pages in between, however, slowed me down a bit. I thought it was too long and found myself skipping over paragraphs of description and exposition to get back to the action and dialog.
As always, Weiner beautifully painted the scene and you felt as if you were right there with the characters, but I didn't need two paragraphs of what one of the characters bought at the supermarket. The characters were very well developed and likable for the most part but a little cookie-cutter - especially the conservative older sister vs. the irresponsible younger one.
Most powerful for me, were the romantic story-lines - very well developed and believable. My favorite scene: Thanksgiving. Hilarious.
