Good controller, but doesn't fix directional pad.,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This is a good looking controller, with some improvements over the original design. A lot of people are complaining about the lack of color on the a,b,x,y buttons, but I don't need them to have color anyway.
I like the new texture of the controller. It isn't a slippery surface and has a little tackier/rougher feel. Makes it easier to hold onto if your hands sweat. I also like that they added a bit of resistance to the thumbsticks. This should also help fix the problem of the thumbsticks getting "floaty" after some use. The trigger buttons also now have a curve, but doesn't really have an impact on use or feel for me, but okay design.
On to the directional pad. It still sucks. It is neat that you can convert it to a raised plus shape or more of a flat shape, but the underlying problem is still there. The d-pad is still on top of a disk, which makes it imprecise. I was trying to enter character names last night and had to use the thumbstick because the d-pad is so inaccurate. I would love it if they went to the ps3 style d-pad that is just four digital buttons instead of basically an analog directional pad.
Gave it 4 stars, would have been 5 if they fixed the d-pad.

Thank you for the information about the D-pad. You saved me $60 in crap. Seems like microsoft is too stupid the re-design the controller. I will buy one of those ps3 to 360 converter to use my ps3 controller on the xbox (they are priced at ~60 but worth it). They also made a mistake changing the colors to grey when MANY games use the color to proper "tell" the player which button should be pushed.

It is frustrating that the directional pad is so badly designed, but I still prefer my 360 controllers analog sticks to the PS3's analog sticks. I can't play FPS games at all on my PS3.

Thank you for saving me from wasting $60. All i want is A FIXED D-PAD! What the crap Microsoft. They shouldn't advertise that they fixed the D-Pad if they didn't actually address the problem. But I'll probably have to buy this controller anyway since my controllers can barely stay on when you set them down. But the power issues are seriously secondary to how terrible the D-Pad is.
Microsoft actually claims that they don not know of this d-pad issue. Can you believe that?
If only the PS3 had games and their network wasn't all lag... -_-

You can buy new battery packs here on amazon for like 10 bucks a piece. I'd go that route if you don't really need a new controller.

I can't remember if it was China or Japan, but some country got a version of the 360 controller that had a real d-pad. It drives me nuts that they won't just put that out elsewhere!
