I was probably not the right type of person for this book,
This review is from: The One and Only Ivan (Kindle Edition)
I literally just finished reading this book and I don't really know what star rating to give it. It was a cute story told in an interesting way, but I didn't really like or dislike it. It's a completely different story than anything I am used to reading and yet something I would probably try to read again.
Ivan is a silverback gorilla living in a stationary circus type deal. It's called a mall and has animals and animal shows three times a day. Ivan stays in his "domain" all of the time and he paints pictures and tries hard (though he doesn't realize this) to forget everything except the here and now. Ruby is a baby elephant that shows up one day and makes Ivan realize that he hasn't really forgotten everything and that things should be better for himself and Ruby. It's a look at humanity through different eyes and the way maybe an animal would think instead of a human.
Likes and dislikes
Some of the chapters were two or three sentences long, which I thought was odd and sort of messed up my flow of reading. However, on this same point I understood why it was like this. The character I liked a bit more than anyone else was Bob, but I felt like there could have been more with him. Also, I felt like I wanted to know more about Stella. I didn't like that it took me about a week to read this book and that now that I am done reading I don't feel like much happened. It felt like a really short book that took too long to read.
This was still an interesting read and I am giving it 3 stars only because, like I said earlier, I have no idea if I liked or disliked it.
