5.0 out of 5 stars Good light for the money, November 10, 2012

This review is from: SODIAL(TM) 7w 300lm Mini Cree Led Flashlight Torch Adjustable Focus Zoom Light Lamp (Misc.)
The specs on this light say "up to 300 lumens" but that is ONLY if you use a 14500 li-ion cell, not a regular AA battery and even then the light is still not 300 lumens, more like 200 but still nice and bright for a $5 light. A 14500 cell is the same size as your average AA battery, but provides almost twice the power and are also rechargeable. IMPORTANT: If you decide to purchase a 14500 cell PLEASE buy a high quality one such as AW brand and make sure it is a PROTECTED 14500 CELL, and stay away from the xxxxxfire brands commonly found on eBay as these cells can be very dangerous. Please do some research on li-ion cells before buying them. Other than that, great little light :)

Thank you for your review. Li-ion cells scare the heck out of me. I'm a retired Firefighter and perhaps a bit more cautious than most. At the same time, I want flashlights that won't fail when I'm lost in blinding smoke. The last thing I need is another source of ignition.

More like 120 lumens.

Buy a major brand light for such an important use, it's not worth the gamble to use an overrated generic for that.

The light I received is actually around 200 lumens on a 14500, but they do seem to differ in lumen output from reading through the comments.

I must agree with you there, Li-ion cells can burn your house down if you're careless with them. This light is really just a novelty light for me if anything. I'll usually grab one of my Surefire or Fenix lights when I need a flashlight.

Roger that!
I just received the flashlight and under separate order UltraFire 14500 1200mAh 3.7 batteries w/charger from AMAZON.
Turned light on, flashlight was too hot too handle, literally, after approx 6 min., light dimmed minute later.
