A Book Every American Must Read - If They Value Their Freedom,
This review is from: The New Reagan Revolution: How Ronald Reagan's Principles Can Restore America's Greatness (Kindle Edition)
"The New Reagan Revolution" by Michael Reagan is a fascinating, enlightening and wonderfully written account of the life and career of our 40th president. It takes us from Ronald Reagan's early days in radio, TV and the movie industry, on through his brilliant and fruitful political career, culminating with the Presidency of the United States and the powerful legacy he bestowed upon America. We are treated to personal moments within the Reagan's family circle and given insight, by Michael's first hand accounts, into many critical decisions made during his father's campaigns and his presidency. From the outset Michael Reagan's book clearly illustrates Ronald Reagan's steadfastness to his principles, his love of family, his love for America and it's God given freedoms and his confidence in the ability of the American people to govern themselves.
The book emphasizes Ronald Reagan's ability to cut through the fog of political rhetoric and state his vision for America to the people in clear and concise terms. Although opposed by hardball Democrats like Speaker of the House Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neill Jr., President Reagan was able to build coalitions across party lines and among the electorate and accomplish the major goals he had set for his administration. Unlike today, back then duly elected representatives respected the will of their constituents. Because he had this ability to define himself and his message Ronald Reagan was able to realize much of his agenda even though Congress was controlled by the Democrats. He had the hearts and minds of the people on his side because he was able to speak to them on their level when it pertained to some of the most complex issues of the day. Among them, the Soviet threat and the proliferation of nuclear weapons were of major concern to most Americans.
The importance of Ronald Reagan's contributions to our Nation are often discounted by the left but, and as this fact filled book will attest, President Reagan was the right man at the right time in our history, charged with the herculean task of rescuing a nation on the brink of collapse. Out of control government spending, oppressive taxation, double digit inflation and never ending lines at the gas pumps are not easily forgotten by those who lived through it. Our military strength was at one of it's lowest points in history. The Soviet Union was in full expansionist mode and the Middle East was destabilized when a friendly Iran was overthrown by a brutal theocratic regime; which just so happened to be "waiting in the wings" to take advantage of a weakened United States and an administration that neglected it's responsibilities to it's own people and our allies across the globe. With all this on his desk the first day he took office, President Ronald Reagan was able to lead us back to that "Shining City on a Hill." (Michael Reagan takes the reader through the course of these perilous times and I must say there are many tense and gripping moments in his account -mjb)
Ironically, today and because so many of us have apparently forgotten recent history, we are now faced with a similar situation. Unfortunately, instead of resolute leadership we are saddled with an administration composed of individuals who "blame America" (as Michael Reagan describes them) for all the problems we face at home and abroad. When the President of the United States embarks on a global apology tour and bows to despotic rulers in a quest to regain America's respect, he is in essence squandering the blood shed by those Americans who preserved our precious freedom. To apologize for the role our men and woman in uniform played in saving the planet from annihilation in two World Wars and who are now charged with protecting us from World domination by malignant terrorist organizations, is absolutely appalling. Ronald Reagan knew that you never compromise or capitulate with tyrants. His position regarding the threat of radical terrorism would be the same as it was during the Cold War with the Soviets - "We win, they lose." How presidential and refreshing is that?
Ronald Reagan was as strong and determined on domestic policy issues as he was on foreign policy. Michael Reagan's recount reveals to us a prophetic tone here as well. His Father knew that if the people did not stand up to the excesses of big and dictatorial government that their freedom would eventually be lost. The unpopular and costly Obama Health Care mandate, a takeover of 17% of our economy, is just one shocking example of such excess. This law compels individuals to adhere to strict federal regulations regarding matters of personal health care. No longer is it your doctor who will diagnose your illness and prescribe a course of treatment, but rather some federal bureaucrat who will micromanage the health care system and report any noncompliance to the IRS. This tainted bill was rammed through both houses of Congress so the President could sign it into law before anyone, including the lawmakers, knew what was in it! This assault on our Constitution came from the same people that gave us the botched "Cash for Clunkers" program which ended up costing the American taxpayer billions of dollars. Now they want to botch healthcare. Not interested in complying with the new law? Then prepare to be subjected to the wrath of the proposed 16,500 new IRS agents who will enforce the mandate. In other words - if you don't obey the laws set forth in the Health Care Reform Act the government will tax and fine you to death or imprison you. If that doesn't work - take the blue pill.
Add to this: government bailouts of big corporations, selected Wall Street institutions and Labor Union sweetheart deals - The shutdown of domestic oil production, forcing total dependency on foreign oil now floating around one hundred dollars a barrel - Big Labor getting big paybacks and waivers from the Health Care mandate while "Joe the Plumber" and the rest of non union working Americans are forced to pay for all of this government largess. Then there's the "regulated" Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac fiasco which gave home mortgages to low or no income applicants. This irresponsible socialistic agenda has now put Americans more than fourteen trillion dollars in debt, a lot of which is held by Red China. This is just the kind of excess Ronald Reagan warned us about. The kind of excess that would cost us our jobs, our futures and our freedom. Liberals would have you believe that this is all just conservative and Tea Party hype but the fact is - it's the cold hard truth!
Who's to blame for the impending chaos? Is there a sinister plan to collapse our economy and consequently our republic being implemented by a group of people who hate America, as it was founded? Are there people willing to set America and the world on fire to achieve their ends? Or is this all a conspiracy theory which could only be conceived in the darkest regions of a madman's brain? These are not easy questions to answer unless you educate yourself to what's happening in America today. Well Michael Reagan has those educated answers right in this book. He reveals to us the startling truth about those who see their big chance to destroy our republic and rebuild it as a socialist state. Michael names the names and lists their entangled web of insidious organizations that have been in place for many years. Whether it's by loading up the welfare rolls, creating civil disorder, manipulating our dollar for selfish and political gain, stealing elections or planting bombs, these people and their organizations now have the impetus they've been seeking in the form of an administration that shares their twisted ideology. They have been given the green light to do what they are best at doing - tearing down America and shredding The Constitution of the United States!
Not only is Michael Reagan's book a reminder of how things were when his Dad was our President, it also heralds a message of hope and renewal for America's future. A combination guidebook and survival kit, The New Reagan Revolution explains in precise detail what we as responsible citizens must do to return to those days when America was a strong and vital nation and a force for good v. evil throughout the World. He lays out the formula for achieving a restoration of America. Michael also points out that there are many Republicans out here who claim to be like his Dad but he doesn't really see any one particular individual that stands out at this time. The fact of the matter is Ronald Reagan's ability to lead by example, his superior communication skills and his steely resolve, are quite uncommon among today's politicians. It should be clear to anyone who lays claim to being as presidential as he: Saying your the new Reagan is easy, being the new Reagan, well that's something rare. Ronald Reagan's uniqueness was in the fact that, unlike the Republicans who are guilty of "going along to get along" (caving), he didn't compromise his principles for the sake of seeking favor from the opposition. Ronald Reagan reasoned with his political opponents and the electorate that his way was the right way and most of the time - they agreed with him.
I reminisce about the days when America was blessed with the presence and the leadership of Ronald Reagan. His vision and courage united the Nation and made it strong and vital again, so much so that it has endured twenty plus years since he boarded Marine One and saluted us for the very last time as our departing President. I remember too, the twenty five miles of roadway lined with grateful Americans who put their daily routines on hold so they could pay their last respects to a man who firmly believed in them, their hopes and dreams, their determination and their generosity. And as the sun set peacefully over Simi Valley and he was laid to rest, I remember a man who made me feel proud to be an American.
I urge every American who cares about this great Country, their freedoms and the freedom of their children, to read this book. If you don't you will never understand why you lost everything. Your job, your life savings, your family, your self respect and everything you took for granted because you thought you had certain unalienable rights as an American citizen, will be lost forever. Remember these words spoken by President Reagan over forty five years ago that are so relevant today ... "If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on Earth."
Michael Reagan, you not only gave your Dad a wonderful gift in writing this book but a gift to those of us who loved and respected him as well.
Thank you Michael Reagan, We miss him too. Happy Birthday Mr. President!
