This review is from: To Terra..., Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I don't read manga aside from Tezuka, Tatsumi, and Yokoyama, but I gave this a try because Vertical-inc put it out and assumed that it would be decent at worst. It was so uninteresting and cliche that I literally felt I was punishing myself by finishing it. Maybe its geared toward a younger audience, but I really did not enjoy it and put it down without even finishing it.

Cliche? I think its more likely that the stuff you're read before this is the cliche material.

I think what Renee may be getting at is that what author Takemiya was doing with this manga when it was created was not as cliche in its time. As this is an older work by a revered girls' comic artist, some elements that may be identified as cliche in a modern context are actually more innovative when viewed historically. Some of the stylistic and story elements within the book are, in fact, the origins of modern genre cliches.
