Nice supplement to MacBook Pro and iPhone,
Great addition for bedside web surfing, reading, and light gaming.
Pros - super quick web browsing, VERY light weight and very thin, many quality apps (including Kindle), total integration between my MacBook Pro and iPhone, stellar support network, quality tasteful construction.
Cons - difficult to find locally - took me about 5 days, price can always be lower, like to see one more size iPad between the regular size and the mini - that would be perfect.
It's not fair to compare the iPad Mini to my 1st gen Fire but I will anyway as they both filled my bedside gadgetry niche: the iPad's Safari blows away the Silk browser all day long, it's quicker and does not lock up on certain pages. The iPad (feels) about 30% lighter than the Fire. The app market (not surprisingly) goes to Apple. However, with that being said, the Fire was and is still a great product for what it is designed. I am gifting my Fire to someone that has no experience with tablets and predict they will find the Fire quite appropriate and just as enjoyable as I did.
