1.0 out of 5 stars Movie gets 5, DVD gets 0, December 28, 2004
This review is from: Ghost in the Shell 2 - Innocence (DVD)
The movie is worth the money alone, an amazing sequel from another amazing movie. definitely the best anime movie i've ever seen.

However, the dvd sucks. sucks alot.

Dreamworks put no effort at all into this. let me list the cons

-bland, boring artwork

-no real special features, simply imported from the jap. dvd release

-no english track (how stupid can you be?)

-the subtitle option is quite annoying, implying that the audience must all be deaf because they feel the need to subtitle every little sound you hear...

its clear that dreamworks simply wanted to put this out as fast as they possiby could to cash in on the hype. it shows simply from the fact that the japanese got their dvd in november.. now how often does an anime come out here 1 month after the japanese release? usually it takes a year.

i bought this because i love the movie, but i wish someone else would have gotten the rights to it. if dreamworks acquires another good anime.. i will cry.

there is no doubt in my mind that within a year or two from now there will be a "special" version that will have REAL special features, better artwork and packaging, and OH MY GOD an english track.

Basically it will be the version that should have been from the get-go.

Screw you dreamworks, you don't know what the fans want. you're anime distrubiting ways sicken me. why couldn't you just let bandai/manga get the rights to this seeing how THEY HAVE THE REST OF THE FRANCHISE UNDER THEIR BELT. bandai would have made this the way it should have been.

Good call! Great movie but, anoying subtitles and, japanese for regione code 1 give me a break! Who reviews these DVDs prior to release Gomer Pile?

Well, if you're willing to deal with Region 2 DVD's, Manga Entertainment released it in the UK dubbed by the same folks who have been doing the voices for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. You can get it at www.amazon.co.uk if you're willing to deal with Region 2 DVD's.

Of course they knew what they were doing. They knew that the manga/anime lovers would buy it regardless, then when they release the polished version they'll buy it again. Sucks.

thanks for the review....I usually hate reviews were they give bad ratings not due to the movie itself but to the packaging....most of the time they just whine and whine with no legit reason; except for your review. Thanks for clearing up the reasons you gave the DVD such a poor rating, and thanks for saving me some money!

I always thought the old DVD's lack of a dub was a PRO, rather than a con...

Amazon needs to split reviews to their respective products and not lump all the reviews into one messed-up pool. :p Talk about making things as hard as possible ... as I am sitting here trying to compare DVD releases.
