**edit at the bottom, I am much more positive on this thing now**

This unit has a lot of issues. Really, it just stinks of poor product design. It seems like they knew they'd have the top-spot in home depot and forgot about making a worthwhile product.

Big stuff:
On hot days it shuts off for minutes at a time. I hear the characteristic "pop" of a heat switch which tells me that it shuts off because it overheats. The real insult here is that when the compressor shuts off, SO DOES THE EXHAUST FAN. The top fan trundles on, but the turbine fan that cools the coils and exhausts the hot air shuts off with the compressor. So the thing takes WAY longer than necessary to cool down and restart, AND in the mean time all that excess heat dissipates into the room you are trying to cool. Effing brilliant.

Mind you, I am running this unit in a room that's about 180 Sq Ft. Way smaller than it's rated for.

related to above, it is IDIOTIC that the user can't turn on the exhaust fan alone {without turning on the AC / compressor itself}. It's pretty universal that when night comes it cools down outside, leaving your house warmer than ambient. When that happens, it would be GREAT to be able to open a couple of windows and use the unit to exhaust the room's hot air, without having to waste money cooling the room down to the ambient temperature. Complete, foolish oversight.

And yeah. Performance. On a 90degree day, this unit won't cool my 180sq ft bedroom. It spends more time 'overheated' than it goes cooling. Not sure, it might actually make the room hotter in sum.

Also, little things:

The included remote is a joke. About 1/3 of the signals transmit to the unit from 6 feet away. When they fail to transmit the remote doesn't know, leaving the remote and unit 'out of sync'. Very annoying.

In sum, this thing is trash. Don't wast your money.

**edit**

Turns out I did NOT appreciate how important it is not to let the exhaust hose make extreme turns. I set it up to remove the bends, and it never overheated again. It's a decent AC now. I even hacked a button into the chassis that allows me to turn on the exhaust alone. This thing still has flaws, but my major complaint is removed. It's not terrible at all.
