The Crock-Pot slow cooker is so easy to use that I actually enjoy helping out in the kitchen. The first meal that we made in this handy little machine was the very delicious BBQ Pulled Pork recipe listed in the Owners Guide booklet. We used the high setting because we knew that we couldn't wait all day, especially when the pork started to emit a very tantalizing and mouth-watering smell! The only thing we did differently, was to add a couple drops of bottled liquid smoke with the sauce, for that outdoor BBQ flavor! The machine itself is a marvel. The settings are easy to understand...love the digital screen control panel instead of a dial. It is a bit heavy, has good insulation, but does get hot to the touch, so be careful. We set it on a plastic cutting board to protect the counter-top...just in case! A feature that this machine has is the locking lid for traveling. My only concern is: the locking mechanism is made of plastic so how long before it might crack/break? Usually that feature would not be used that often unless you intend to go to potlucks all the time. Speaking of potlucks, the travel-temp. feature is a great idea to let you know how the temperature of the food is holding up. The crock pot also has hooks on the back for wrapping up the elec. cord when finished...great idea! The 10 recipes in the booklet are straightforward and simple to use, and if they are not enough, I can recommend two very good authors of slow-cooker cookbooks: Beth Hensperger and Mable Hoffman. Both ladies have excellent books. The booklet also has a Hints & Tips section that I found useful...learned something today! Crock-Pot also has an interesting website ([...]) with more recipes that people have shared, and etc.
