One of the best WWII documentaries,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: WWII in HD (DVD) (DVD)
I have watched this series on the History channel and it is unbelievable. Although very graphic at times, the color footage is extrordinary and the comments by the veterans add a new dimension and at times will break your heart. Of all the WWII series I have seen this probably the best overall. The History channel has done a great job. I just wish the DVD was available right now. If you are at all interested in this part of US history or had a relative or friend who served in this war, you will want to get this series.

If you think this is the best WWII documentary, then I'd be willing to bet you've never seen the BBC World At War series. It's widely recognized as the standard by which all others are measured, and deservedly so.

Right. I saw WaW when I was a kid and it was pretty graphic and honest for the day (late 60's). It recounted in great detail, events preceding during and after the war.
This series was pretty good but it's mostly from the perspective of individuals so not really a consice historical representation of events. Not to say it's inaccurate rather it's only as seen from the profoundly frightening situations experienced by grunts and field officers alike. While it's technally in HD most of the film, the majority of which IS in color, is pretty grainy and would probably look just about as good on DVD. The HD really only comes through during interviews and shots of still photos. I'd recommend it though, especially at this price.

Yes but it suffers with a touch of revisionst history which drags it down ! I have it by the way ! Revisionist history is a scab and really a bunch of bull (lack of better word)

Claiming Russia won WW2 puts down the deaths of all our heroic young men on Omaha beach and the battle of the bulge ! Stalin said it himself ! They wouldnt have been able to turnt the tide on the Germans writh us and the British setting up a 2nd front ! Not to mention all the materials we wer sending them !
