Ok, there were some Twilight similarities; how can there not be with the whole "vampire boy falls for troubled teen girl" storyline. But guess what - I loved Twilight, so that was a plus for me.
Now I really liked this book, but not quite loved. There were just a couple of things holding me back. First, (and this is a very minor issue, but it was troughout the book and it bugged me) Ara-Rose was from Australia, so she used the word Mum instead of Mom. What bothered me was that so did every other character in the book and they were all living in the good old US of A. Now, I can only speak for myself, but I've never referred to my mother as Mum.
More importantly, there were a few times that I didn't really like Ara-Rose and I didn't know how David could fall so in love with her. Don't get me wrong, I was trying my hardest to love her and there were a several times that I did, but I kept finding myself shaking my head at her in disbelief and asking her (out loud sometimes! and no, I haven't lost my mind, YET!) how she could act like that or say what she did.
With all of that off my chest, let me just say that this author is very talented. There were several scenes where I felt what the characters were feeling. My heart would speed up or ache or I would feel the embarrassment and heat that they were feeling. (The closet scene!! Mercy me!) I don't often do that and that's what I love most when reading. I am a fan of this series and will be purchasing the next book!
