5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for kids, October 31, 2010
This review is from: Funky Monkey Snacks Pink Pineapple, Pineapple with Guava, Freeze-Dried Fruit, 1-Ounce Bags (Pack of 12) (Grocery)
I can tell by the packaging that this product was geared for kids, and it makes for a completely trustworthy snack. But I have to say that I loved it too! I'm currently on a kick to eliminate refined sugar from my diet, and it's been a challenge. But products like this one make it doable.

Bear in mind that this isn't just dried fruit, it's freeze-dried...devoid of moisture. That may sound unappealing, but it's really good--the texture is crunchy, and you can soak it in your mouth for really long flavor. There's no added sugar in this, but it's really sweet on its own. I use it for dessert or whenever I need a sweet fix.

"There's no added sugar in this, but it's really sweet on its own."

Actually, if you look at the nutrition fact label, you'll see 21 grams of sugar in each package.

The labeling laws are very loose in this area. They can say "no added sugar" if they don't literally add sugar to the food.
However, 21 grams of sugar is very high, and you'll see the net carbs are high as well.
Folks, read the labels carefully and do your homework.
I am sure these are nice products that taste good, and the gluten-free will be good for many.
But make no mistake - NONE of the Funky Monkey products are sugar-free.

I read the labels AND ingredients. "No added sugar" means no added refined sugar, which is what I'm avoiding--I'm not counting carbs or sugars. I got exactly what I paid for--straight (freeze-dried) fruit; I was looking ahead to winter and fewer fresh fruit choices and this fits the bill. By the way, this product has 9 grams of sugar on the package, not 21. "Make no mistake", if you want natural, this is still alrighty.

My package is the one ounce size and there are 21 grams of sugar listed. You must be looking at the smaller one serving of fruit size if you think there are only 9 grams of sugar in the package.

That said, this is not my favorite flavor (carnaval is!) but these are a pretty yummy snack for 110 calories. 100% of vitamin C. It is fruit... So the sugars are different than the ones in say, frosted flakes. ;)
