5.0 out of 5 stars The Audacity of Ignoring Sexual Abuse and Claiming to Know What Conviction Means, November 14, 2012
This review is from: The Conviction to Lead: 25 Principles for Leadership That Matters (Hardcover)
I'm looking forward to reading this book, Dr. Mohler because a simple Google search like "Al Mohler sex abuse" reveals that thousands of people and several reputable formal reports, including one published by your own denomination, have criticized you and other leaders of the SBC, by name, for lacking the conviction to prevent sexual abuse and/or covering up sexual abuse incidents, your splashy PR statement after the Penn State scandal implying otherwise, notwithstanding.

Thanks for having the conviction to promote yourself shamelessly under even the most trying circumstances. I'm sure that Winston Churchill would be happy that you consider yourself to be in his league, clearly.

If you wish to make an ad hominem attack on the author there are forums better suited for such garbage. Your comments do not belong in a book review. Please grind your axe elsewhere.

This is the place to review the book, Samantha.
Read it and then spout...preferably something that is intelligently engaged with the thesis!

OK, I did the google search, and it turned up absolutely nothing negative about Dr. Mohler. You lost me on this one.

That's not true. A quick google search will easily turn up this:

Samantha is absolutely right about Al Mohler.

F. Szarejko:

If you wish to blindly defend a controversial author and make an ad hominem attack against a reviewer (calling something garbage is not a fine debate strategy) who has actually read the book and has evidence backing up his/her points, Amazon allows you do do that.

I can't say that your comments don't belong in a book review because many Amazon reviewers (including yourself, I imagine) have not read the book they're reviewing and/or engage in ad hominem attacks in the review section.

Thus you can grind your axe here - I just wish you would do so more intelligently.

I still contend that what what comes up when you type "Al Mohler sex abuse" into a search engine precludes writing a book telling others how to act with conviction as Mohler is clearly a pragmatist rather than a man of principle.

Have you read the book? If so, you might understand why writing anything about the content of the book, per se, is hard. It's 100% trite John Maxwell-esque fluff that has no serious thesis of any kind. In fact, it's so poorly written that I don't think Dr. Mohler wrote it because he's a bright guy and a good writer.

He has some good books out there but he's just cashing in on his brand in this one.

And I still think that Dr. Mohler, prior to presuming to advise leaders about how to act with conviction in the 21st century, should answer questions about the allegations that one of his cherished convictions is that preserving the reputation of the church is more important than caring for under-age sexual abuse victims.
