This review is from: Syba PCI Express SATA II 4 x Ports RAID Controller Card SY-PEX40008 (Personal Computers)
Built a system with two of these cards (plus motherboard ports) for a 12-drive RAID system with two 6-drive RAID5 volumes, plus another drive for Ubuntu (11.10) root. With these cards was able to build the volumes, but filling them up at full speed always got the system to freeze solid, though it worked OK when rsync was limited in transfer bandwidth. Reflashed with latest firmware, and still freezes. Switched to Rosewill RC-218 PCI Express SATA II Controller Card w/ 4 internal SATA with 2 external eSATA Designs, and the problems are gone. Now these Syba cards decorate my surplus collection. By the way, the performance of the Rosewill cards are pretty sweet and kick butt compared to my older systems built with PCI cards.
