A life-changing book,
This review is from: Teach English in Italy (Paperback)
After years of working as an academic in English-speaking countries I decided to explore the employment opportunities available in other cultures. It's not easy to move to another culture - it takes a lot of courage. But this book shows how many people young and old do it every year.
The book describes how to find work in the different job markets, from university positions to freelance lessons, with very detailed instructions on how to navigate the bureaucracy and avoid costly mistakes. The author doesn't just tell you the official procedures, but describes his personal experience in getting things done and beating the competition.
I corresponded with the author through his web site and discovered that an updated and expanded second edition of this book will soon be available, which includes a new chapter on practical teaching techniques based on the latest research in second language acquisition. The new edition explains that claims of "miracle methods" offered by expensive "TEFL" and similar courses are not supported by empirical data.
The author also offers continuing advice by email without charge every step of the way, something I've never heard of in any other book of its kind.
