Weigh your camera before you buy a float!,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: CowboyStudio Yellow Foam Floating Wrist Strap for UnderWater/WaterProof Cameras - Yellow (Electronics)
I recently purchased this float and it isn't buoyant enough for my 140 gram camera, so I decided to test with various weights so you don't go through the same problem.
< 75 grams - Floats
75 - 90 Grey zone
> 100 grams - Sinks like a rock with zero flotation
While it technically does what it is designed to do, I'm don't think there are many cameras on the market that are under 75 grams, hence the low mark.

Don't doubt that you had trouble, but the buoyancy of the camera is probably different than that of your test weight. And others have reported that they can float a Nikon S30 which is 7.5oz or 214g.

In that case going by your logic, the little yellow float will keep a battleship afloat.
My testing was with various weights to help other users determine if this fits their needs
