3.0 out of 5 stars Can't Live Without It/Forced to Buy It, December 21, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Canon Macrolite Adapter 67 (Camera)
Unfortunately, a side-effect of upgrading from the EF 100mm f2.8 Macro to the new EF 100mm f2.8L IS USM Macro is having to buy this adapter. Pretty steep for a small ring, but it's a Canon item, what can I say. Build is decent, almost feels aluminum rather than plastic. Threads work smoothly on lens. Make sure it's tight or the ring portion of the flash will rotate.

The ring works as expected, and so far hasn't caused any vignetting when used with MR-14EX. It's a minor pain if you use the ringlite flash a lot since you have to remove it again to put the lens cap on. I ended up just keeping in the pouch with the flash.

This is little more than a step-down filter adapter that usually go for less than 2 bucks on eBay with free shipping. It's basically just a step-down filter adapter with a little chamfer for the ring on it.
This is a total ripoff.

Andy R. says:
David Siegfried: you are completely wrong! In no way will a standard step-down adaptor hold either the Canon MR-14EX nor MT-24EX! This Canon Macrolite adapter is not a simple step-down adapter, but has a special chamfer for the ring flash to snap in!
(Nevertheless, I agree with you that the Canon ring is overpriced...)
