5.0 out of 5 stars Compared to Kenneth Cole Reaction Show Business, March 24, 2013

Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Samsonite Colombian Leather Flapover Case (Apparel)
I couldn't decide between 2 very similar bags on Amazon, so I ordered both: the Kenneth Cole Reaction Luggage Show Business ($123.99) and the Samsonite Columbian Leather Flapover Case ($139.99). It took me about 5 seconds to decide that I preferred this one. To me, the $16 difference is negligible. In terms of size and pockets, both are about the same. I prefer the Samsonite for a few reasons:

1) The Samsonite leather was noticeably softer, which I prefer.
2) The Samsonite latches buckle/unbuckle smoothly and effortlessly. One of the latches on the Kenneth Cole felt stiff and required a little effort to release. This may be a design flaw, or I just got a defective Kenneth Cole.
3) The laptop compartment on the Samsonite was about 1/2 inch deeper. This allowed more of my 15inch MacBook to sit in the compartment.

I'd still give the Kenneth Cole high marks; however, the Samsonite is better for me.

I've been trying to decide between these 2 for a couple of weeks, and now that the price of the Samsonite just dropped to $89 it is a no-brainer! Even if it was the original price I'd get the Samsonite based on your review. Thanks!

Hi, I am also very keen on buying the Samsonite but saw a couple of negative reviews on the hooks for the shoulder strap. Is anyone else facing the same problem ?

No issues with the hook for me, and works well just like the old bag this replaced. The locking strap for the cover takes a good push to unlock, but no biggie - I'll get used to it.

The leather is very smooth per ETH's review. 'Love it!

The picture of this clearly looks red, and I've seen these in stores like Best Buy and Office Depot, but as a much higher price. Is this picture accurate or does it look more like brown leather?

Here's the link from Samsonite.com of the one I like:

It's more brown than red, closer to the image in the link you provided.

Hello. Am considering purchasing this for my brother but he has a 17 inch macbook pro. Would he be able to fit that laptop in this bag seeing as how the 17 inches refers to the diagonal length of the screen and not the width of the laptop (which would be a inch or two smaller)?

You can fit 10" x 16" in there, maybe a tad more. Macbook Pro is 15.4" x 10.4" so it most probably will. It will be a bit tight along the zipper line but with a little encouragement, will fit.
